Ground Breaking: Rollins Ford Park
On February 28, 2022, Prince William County Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism (DPRT) held a groundbreaking ceremony today to kick off construction of the new Rollins Ford Park.
The new 69-acre park is planned for multi-use with something for everyone: children, teens, adults, and even pets. It will include two multi-use athletics fields (one grass and one synthetic turf), a destination playground, basketball court, pavilions, dog park, comfort station, walking trails, a “pump track” for bike riders, and wildflower meadows. Located between Glenkirk Road and Vint Hill Road adjacent to the western border of Rollins Ford Road
It is intended to be a regional “destination” park. The playground is farm themed in recognition of the rural area which borders the park. The theme includes a farm-house and a red cardinal, a regional bird and the Gainesville High School mascot It will include swings, jungle gym, and slides.
There will be no lights at the park as it is not intended for night use such as after-dark practices and/or games.
DPRT believes it will be an 18-month process, and the park is scheduled to open in the fall of 2023.
